Lessons learned:
1) Holy crap it’s hot here.
2) ONLY take taxis that say “Taxi-metered” on them or they can charge whatever they wish.
3) ATMs – better exchange rates than the exchange booths.
4) Everyone is out to make a buck or suggest places for you to go in order to get a commission out of it (‘madame, madame, meester, meester, please, no trying sell, but seee, looook, madame – touching arm) – this includes the hotel concierge suggesting a place to eat that had one whitey in it, nicely decorated and charging $30 for a Thai dish we could get for $6 in San Francisco. Huh??
5) Even WITH the husband, the massage ladies will touch him as you walk by on the sidewalk beckoning him to come in, “pleaseeeee. Meestuh, meestuh??, massage? Madame? You too? Together, so nice…” Some of them really are just for a simple massage, it’s the ones scantily clad wearing FM heels you have to watch out for.
Today, aside from our quick lessons, we first figure out how to use the Skytrain at Asoke station to get to Siam Paragon which we were told had some good shopping and it did! It was more Western than we expected, so we didn’t stay too long, but just long enough for me to pick up a pair of really nice wedged shoes while Don managed to sit patiently waiting for me while playing Angry Birds on his droid.
We later moved on to having beer, napping, taking a dip in our hotel pool and later getting caught in a monsoon rainstorm on the way to dinner at a hole in the wall Thai restaurant off Sumkumvit Road.
To Dons chagrin, his charger to his MacBook is smoking at the end of this…I had read online that apple products/plugs would have no issue. My iphone was perfectly fine, but his charger did not do so well (thus our inability to blog for a few days).
